Working together to reduce, reuse and recycle our waste

Minimising waste production, increasing reuse and segregating waste for closed loop recycling supports the circular economy.  As such, waste minimisation and resource efficiency is one of the key operational focuses of the University’s Sustainability and Climate Emergency Strategy 2021-2025.

Our waste commitments have led to us achieving the Carbon Trust Standard for reducing waste year-on-year, achieving a 15% reduction in total waste between 2017-20 and achieving an overall score of 75% for our waste management practices.

Producing a wide range of non-hazardous and hazardous controlled waste means that we manage our waste in accordance with the Waste Framework Directive and operate within the requirements of all relevant waste legislation and within the remit of the Waste Hierarchy.
